A homage to Venice Beach founder Abbot Kinney (1850-1920), who developed the Venice Beach Canals as part of his Venice of America plan in 1905. The canals were built to resemble the look and feel of Venice, Italy. Abbot Kinney also established the San Gabriel Timberland Reserve in 1892 with the help of John Muir, which was the forerunner to the Angeles National Forest. Photo © Ian Robertson-Salt
Local Gems throughout the Venice area
Great little spot for friendly signs and items.
Come check out some vintage antiques and some classics at Elco Welding on Abbot Kinney Blvd.
Obviously the same owner as neighboring Gjelina, Frans has a quick version of the world famous Restaurant. Come check it out for lunch and sit on a crate while you eat and check out the various street art on the building.
Abbot's Habit is the local coffee & Sandwich shop and not to be confused with Abbot's Pizzeria right next store. Great for a quick coffee and breakfast or a sit down lunch.
Great pizza either by the slice or the whole pie. Beware, the crust is not always your typical doughy crust, rather varies with some sesame seeds or poppy seeds. Still great, but it may be a surpirse.
